Calculus was born from the need to solve two fundamental mathematical problems the area problem and the tangent line problem. These were discovered independently by Wilhelm Gottfrieb Liebniz and Isaac Newton in the late 17th century. This led to integral and differential calculus respectively.
Unit 1- Limits
Limits are used to explore the idea of approaching infinitely close to some number, our limiting value. We appeal to the infinite divisibility of the real numbers in order for this to work.
This scale will provide a guide for student outcomes for this unit. It will be used as a tool by students to guide their learning and gauge their progress and by the instructor to design lessons and assessments..
